Well, I got this email just the other day:
Hello, Mr. van Vliet, My name is Hannah Jones, and I write for the Prior Lake American. We just got word about your beekeeping project (and your encouraging success on Kickstarter–congrats!), and we were wondering if we could talk to you and get the whole story. Would you be willing to have an interview and let us see the colonies? If you’re willing to share your story, I’m available at hxxxxxx@swpub.com or at my office phone: 952-xxx-xxxx. I hope to hear from you soon! Thank you,
Cindy and I were on our way up the North Shore of Lake Superior (the other North Shore), so I set up a meeting time with Hannah for Tuesday 3rd June. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, or what the Prior Lake American would find interesting about a couple hundred thousand stinging insects, let alone whether the paper would find me very interesting (my brothers both got the gift of gab. Except when it comes to talking about honey bees, it turns out).
So, Cindy and I met up with Hannah at a local coffee shop at 5PM Tuesday afternoon, and talked with her for about 45 minutes, and then we drove out to Zwebers Farm. And the resulting article was on the front page of Saturday’s “Prior Lake American”, the weekly paper that goes to every mailbox in the city! The paper doesn’t publish the full edition online, unless you have a paid subscription. But Lori Carlson the editor, sent me a PDF copy that I can share with you here.
